New Song: Katy Perry, ‘Wide Awake’

Listen to Katy Perry's new song 'Wide Awake' from The Complete Confection.

If you're like us, then waiting for the rerelease of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream (Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection) is more fun than counting down to your birthday. (This disc is out March 27!) So you can imagine our excitement when we learned that the revamped album would also include three new songs -- we even got a chance to hear short snippets. Now -- because we're pretty sure Katy loves us -- she released the full version of "Wide Awake," and we've already listened to it 15 times (no joke).

While "Part Of Me" may embrace a somber approach to dealing with a failed relationship, "Wide Awake" is an optimistic, airy ballad celebrating what Katy's learned from her mistakes. The downtempo melody highlights the song's introspective lyrics (that may be an autobiographical lesson learned from her divorce from Russell Brand), especially in the chorus: "Falling from cloud nine/ Crashing from the high/ I'm letting go tonight/ (Yeah I'm) Falling from cloud nine/ I'm wide awake/ Not losing any sleep/ Picked up every piece/ And landed on my feet."

We know breakups are hard to handle, but we're pretty sure this track might be added to Katy's slew of No. 1's on Billboard's Pop Songs Chart. That should cheer our girl up for sure. If not, there's always "My Strange Addiction." That show makes your own life seem A-OK.
