New Song: Nothankyou, ‘Oyster’

Listen to Nothankyou's new song "Oyster."

Nothankyou is one side project that deserves the spotlight.

So, you know Nothankyou, that collaboration between Dirty Projectors' vocalist and keyboardist Olga Bell and British solo musician (and onetime guest star on "The O.C.", WHAT?!) Tom Vek? Yeah, so they're set to release their track "Oyster" (backed with "Know Yourself") this coming Monday. That's coming up quickly, and based on your blank-eyed expression when we asked if you know Nothankyou, you're gonna wanna stop what you're doing, sit down, and listen to this. Trust us. We're only doing it 'cause we loves ya.

Listen to Nothankyou's "Oyster" after the jump.

Opening with slow, dragging synth pieces, the instrumentation abruptly switches to a tearing guitar and percussion right when Bell starts repeatedly howling a chorus of "Do what you want anyway." The duo's sound and vocals remind us of a lot of other artists -- the pulled delivery of Björk, Future's hollowed moaning on Rihanna's "Loveeeeeee Song," and the SBTRKT and Little Dragon collab "Wildfire" in particular -- but the final product is anything but recycled... Unlike any variation on "It looks like the world truly is Nothankyou's oyster!", which we refuse to close this write-up with. Good day.
