New Song: Taylor Swift, ‘Begin Again’

Listen to Taylor Swift's "Begin Again," the second single from her forthcoming album "Red."

Hey, Swifties! Exciting news! Yesterday Taylor Swift previewed her brand-new single, "Begin Again" (the second single from her upcoming album, Red, out Oct. 22) on "Good Morning America" and promised that the full track would be available on iTunes at midnight. Well, Taylor will be pleased to know that last night we sat patiently by our computers the way Star Wars fans camp outside a theater for front-row seats to "The Clone Wars" (or whatever. Er, bad example?). And by "sit patiently," we really mean camp out in PJs with pints of ice cream not meant for sharing. OK, well, whatever we did or did not do in preparation for Taylor's new song, IT WAS WORTH IT.

Following her jubilant breakup anthem "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "Begin Again" is a slow-moving, reflective track that articulately describes what it feels like to find love again after a soul-crushing split. Backed by gentle acoustic strums and country-tinged twang, Taylor sings, "Cause you throw your head back laughing like a little kid/ I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cause he never did/ I've been spending the last eight months thinking all love ever does is break, and burn, and end/ But on a Wednesday, in a cafe... I watched it begin again." Well, we're officially bawling face down on our desks. Because IT'S SO TRUE. Also, we're sticking with our aforementioned theory that "Begin Again" marks the transition from John Mayer to Conor Kennedy, because isn't a Kennedy more likely to pull your chair out for you than a long-haired, belt-notching musician?! Yeah. If Taylor believes you can love again, then so do we. Which is totally the encouragement I needed to update my online dating profile.
