New Video: Wild Nothing, ‘Paradise’

Actress Michelle Williams is the star of Wild Nothing's new video for "Paradise."

"Love is paradise," Wild Nothing frontman Jack Tatum sings in "Paradise," but being on a plane isn't -- if you're Michelle Williams. Our favorite "Dawson's Creek" actress-turned-Academy Award nominee stars in the indie act's latest video, heading anxiously above the clouds. She battles her flight fright with a vintage cassette tape player -- not a Walkman! -- and by reading a spoken-word monologue done specifically for the video version of the synth-pop track. "'All shall be well,' said the ocean," she says, and then finds herself mentally chilling by a waterfall. Michelle Williams, spirit guide.

The lo-fi video -- it looks like it was shot on home video, or at least a very old iPhone -- matches up with the song's retro vibe. The indie rock band's '80s-inspired sophomore album, Nocturne, dropped earlier this year on trendsetting Brooklyn label Captured Tracks, and draws on the moody pop of groups such as the Cure and Depeche Mode. It's a stylish sound, though it can't compete with Williams' trench coat and Wayfarers. Give that lady an Oscar already! Or at least an iPod with some whale sounds.
