Nicki Minaj Opens Up About Her Troubled Childhood In ‘Nightline’ Interview (VIDEO)

Nicki Minaj may be a cartoonish bad-ass who loves the F-bomb, but she’s got a serious side, too, which was revealed during a recent ABC News “Nightline” interview. During her candid sit-down with ABC's Juju Chang, Nicki touched upon everything from her youngest fan, Sophia Grace, to Lady Gaga comparisons (it "irks" her) to her infamous nip slip during an appearance on "Good Morning America" last summer: "I’m so sorry about that. People are ridiculous if they think I would use that as a stunt. I would never, ever, ever -- swear to God -- do something like that on purpose. That’s ridiculous. I would never do that.” We totes believe you, girl.

But it was Nicki's open confessions about her home life and troubled relationship with her father that exposed Nicki's most vulnerable side. The "Beez In The Trap" singer confessed, "My father was abusive. We were afraid for [my mother's] life because whenever he would have a real bad outburst, he would threaten to kill her.” She later admitted, “I wanted to kill him. I wished he was dead.” Though Nicki has reportedly reconciled with her father, the sting of her troubled childhood still remains. While we're not making light of the situation, we do think it's pretty safe to say that Nicki Minaj has risen above and beyond those hardships and is undoubtedly stronger because of them. (Not to mention girl is gettin' money left and right.) Props, Nicki!
