Nicolas Cage Doesn’t Want A Star Wars Role, Prefers Star Trek

Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage has said he has no interest in appearing in a Star Wars project, as his loyalties lie with Star Trek instead. Speaking to Kevin Polowy (see the interview below), Cage said he's a lifelong Star Trek fan, and he's enjoyed the original series with William Shatner and the newer movies with Chris Pine.

Cage explained that he enjoys the Star Trek series so much because it allows writers to come up with storylines that might not be embraced if they happened within the boundaries of Earth and our existing timeline.

"I'm a Trekkie, man. I'm on the Enterprise. I grew up watching [William] Shatner. I thought [Chris] Pine was terrific. To me, what science-fiction is really all about, and why it's such an important genre, is that is really where you can say whatever you want, however you feel," he said. "You put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time, or in the future, and you can, without people jumping on. You can really express your thoughts. And Star Trek really embraced that. They got into some serious stuff."
