Nintendo holding Wii U event Sept. 13

NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime to discuss "how the Wii U will change the future of gaming" at NYC briefing next month; release date, price expected.

Nintendo will hold a media event in New York City on September 13, the company told GameSpot this afternoon. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime will present at the briefing, discussing "more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment."

Two major questions surrounding the Wii U remain: When during this holiday season will it be released? And how much will it cost? The last time Nintendo held an event in New York City hosted by Fils-Aime, the company announced the release date and price for the 3DS. The event took place in January 2011, with the 3DS arriving in the United States during March of that year.

Though Nintendo has remained silent on a price and release date for the Wii U, that hasn't stopped speculation from pouring in. The latest scuttlebutt is that the console will launch in the United States the week of Thanksgiving and the Black Friday shopping period. As for a price, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes the system must launch at $250 or less to be viable.
