Pokémon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby Early Buyers Get “Incredibly Rare” Pokémon

Nintendo has released a new trailer for the upcoming 3DS games Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, showing off more mega-evolved pokemon, Cosplay Pikachu in action, and an "incredibly rare" Pokémon you can get by buying the game early.

Players who buy Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire near launch can receive a Shiny Beldum holding a Mega Stone via a "limited-time" Internet character distribution. As you can see near the end of the trailer above, the Shiny Beldum will evolve into Shiny Metang and then a Shiny Metagross. You can then use the Mega Stone and Mega Evolve Shiny Metagross into Shiny Mega Metagross.

Nintendo did not say exactly how soon after launch it will stop gifting the Pokémon to buyers.

The trailer also shows more of the unbearably adorable Cosplay Pikachu, this time during battle. Cosplay Pikachu has abilities that a normal Pikachu can't learn, and they change depending on the costume. Pikachu Rock Star, for example, knows the Steel-type move Meteor Mash, and Pikachu Pop Star can use Draining Kiss in battle, a Fairy-type move that is effective against Dragon-type Pokémon. Pikachu, Ph.D., Pikachu Belle and, Pikachu Libre all have special moves as well.

To get your Cosplay Pikachu, you must first enter the Pokémon Contest Spectacular at the Hoenn region, where you can test your Pokémon in five different categories: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness.

Finally, the trailer reveals Mega-Evolved Pokémon like Mega Salamence, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Altaria.

In June, Nintendo announced that the games will have another type of evolution, called Primal Reversion. This form is currently only known for the legendaries Groudon and Kyogre.

Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby launch on November 21. For more on the games, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
