Pop Culture Artist Earl Norem Passes

Legendary painter and illustrator, Earl Norem, passed away yesterday. Mr. Norem was know for his paintings of Masters of the Universe as well as MANY other pop culture properties, defining the looks and “universes” for many fans. He was still working as an artist up until his last day.  His last project was for Mars Attacks.  Mr Norem was incredibly influential on several generations of artists and many of us were fortunate enough to be able to meet him at PowerCon.   He was prolific, one of a kind and he will be deeply missed.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Norem’s family, friends and fans.

He’s daughter Andrea posted today on Facebook:

As my son has so eloquently posted, it is true that my father, Earl Norem, a member of the greatest generation, has passed on. He was a true super hero to me and to all who knew him. A kind gentle, modest soul, his legacy will last a lifetime. We thank all of his fans far and wide who have meant so much to him throughout his career. As the great Jack Benny was quoted to say, Thanks for the memories, Earl, Daddy, Pop and loving. Husband. You were one of a kind.

His grandson Michael posted:

Hello everyone, my name is Michael Andre Cappiello and I am Earl Norem’s Grandson. I wanted to be the one to tell you all the sad news…..Friday,June 19th my grandfather passed away, he was 92 years old. Pop was currently working on a trading card job for Mars Attacks. I thought all of his fans, who he loved, deserved to know. Pop was a gentleman, warrior and a kid at heart. I know that all of you will keep him alive in your hearts. Rest In Peace Earl Norem (Pop-Pop) “I have the POWER!”.
