PS4 EverQuest Next not a priority

Sony Online Entertainment "very serious" about MMO game being a PC-oriented launch, but says "you're dumb" not to consider other options like PS4.

A PlayStation 4 version of Sony Online Entertainment's upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game EverQuest Next could one day happen, but it's not the developer's main focus.

"We're very serious about this being a PC-orientated launch. Now, you're dumb not to explore other options with a business of this type, but we're very serious about developing for the PC," producer David Georgeson told Eurogamer.

Georgeson said Sony Online Entertainment is very familiar with the PS4, as the company is bringing two of its biggest titles, DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2, to the console.

"So we have a lot of people becoming extraordinarily knowledgeable with that box," he said. "We're not adverse to the idea, but we're not going down that path yet."

EverQuest Next was announced earlier this month. Unlike other MMO games, it has no levels and it features more than 30 unique classes. The game also boasts destructible environments, allowing players to dynamically shape the world around them.

Also part of the EverQuest Next package is a world-building tool called Landmark. It allows players to create structures using Sony's own Player Studios Software. Landmark will be available as a free download this winter, while EverQuest Next does not have a release date.
