PS4’s September 2019 State Of Play: The Last Of Us 2 And All Other Announcements

The Games Of State Of Play


Sony's State of Play for September 2019 showed off several games coming to the PS4 in the months ahead--and some coming sooner than you think. In addition to some new announcements like Techland's adventure game Arise: A Simple Story, along with Enhance Games' Humanity, we saw some other surprises like the PS4 debut of acclaimed strategy title Civilization 6, and Death Stranding's limited edition PS4 Pro.

However, the big highlight from the livestream was The Last of Us Part II. In the newest trailer from Naughty Dog's hotly-anticipated game, we saw Ellie face off against a new threat in the post-apocalyptic ruins of America. Furthermore, we also saw the reveal of The Last of Us II's release date, which is coming February 21, 2020. So with that, here's a quick breakdown of all the details were learned from Playstation's recent State of Play livestream.


Humanity, Coming 2020


Developed by Enhance Games, Humanity puts you in control of a mob of people as they try to overcome bizarre obstacles and rival clusters of people. In the debut trailer, we saw one group facing off against another while wielding lightsabers. It looks to be very physics-based, which will likely put you in some weird situations where you'll have to contend with the environment and ensure your mob of flailing people can make it intact.


Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- Campaign Trailer


Ahead of its release on October 25, Activision revealed the trailer for Modern Warfare's campaign. Bringing back Captain Price from the original Modern Warfare trilogy, the game's setting returns to a more contemporary setting, moving away from the sci-fi from the Black Ops series. In addition to the game's campaign reveal, we also got new info on the PS4 beta for the new Spec-Ops mode, which focuses on co-op oriented missions with other players.


Wattam - Release Date Reveal


After several years in development, Wattam finally has a release window set for December 2019. Published by Annapurna Interactive, the peculiar puzzle adventure game coming from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi will finally let players dive into the bizarre world where strange creatures run about. However, an exact date is still yet to be revealed.


Arise: A Simple Story Reveal


Coming from Techland and developer Piccolo, Arise: A Simple Story follows the adventure of a lone villager making his way across a frozen wilderness, which eventually transforms into a vibrant landscape. Over the course the protagonist's adventure, the seasons change, revealing more of the hidden beauties that lie beyond.


L.A. Noire: VR Case Files - Out Now On PS VR


Originally released in 2017 for the HTC Vive, Rockstar's VR experience focusing on Detective Cole Phelps in 1940s LA is out now on the PS VR. Serving up the highlights from L.A. Noire, the VR Case files re-contextualizes many of the game's more notable missions and gives it a different perspective to work from. During the State of Play stream, it was revealed that the VR game is out now on the PS Store.


PS VR Roundup


In addition to L.A. Noire VR coming to PS4, Sony also revealed a batch of other VR games coming to PS VR. These games include Space Channel 5, Gorn, Espire1: VR Operative, After The Fall, and Stardust Odyssey.


MediEvil - PS4 Demo Out Now


The next big remake for a beloved Playstation classic is the upcoming MediEvil. Though its release on October 25 is still a ways out, its developers have released a demo of the game on PS4 now. In this demo, players will be able to unlock a special helmet for Dan, which they can use in the final game.


Civilization 6 Coming To PS4


Originally released in 2016, Sid Meier's Civilization 6 has been absent on consoles. However, during the recent State of Play, it was revealed that the open-ended empire-building sim would be making its way to the PS4 (and Xbox One) on November 22. Death Stranding - Limited Edition PS4 Pro


To commemorate the upcoming release of Death Stranding on PS4, Sony has revealed a special limited edition PS4 Pro. Decorated in designs that recall elements from the game, the 1TB PS4 Pro is available for pre-order now.


PS Plus - The Last of Us Remastered And MLB 19


Revealed during the State of Play, the next games coming to PS+ is The Last of Us Remastered and MLB 19 for the month of October.


The Last Of US Part II - Release Date Reveal


In the new trailer for The Last of Us Part II, we finally saw the reveal of the game's release date. Launching on February 20, 2020, the game brings the focus from Joel to the returning protagonist Ellie. Now older, and more weary by the state of the world, she'll embark on a mission to get revenge on a rival group following a traumatic event. The trailer keeps things short, but we did finally get to see another appearance from Joel, who wishes to help Ellie on her vendetta.
