Stranger Things: The Experience Review #StrangerThingsExperience

The hit Netflix show has inspired an immersive experience that can now be enjoyed in Los Angeles! I was able to take part in the experience over the weekend and had a great time. I’ll give you a more thorough review but due to the rules I wasn’t able to take pictures or video so I only have pictures of a few photo ops and the food court/gift shop that extends your adventure called Mix-Tape (more on that later).

The experience begins as you enter a lab in Hawkins, Indiana to participate in a sleep study. While waiting in line to begin the “study” you’re being interviewed by some “clinicians” that start to slowly prep you for what’s about to begin. Soon you’re in the lab and things start to get strange, for lack of a better word. I will mention that in order to accommodate as many guests as possible you’re split into two large groups, so I’d recommend coming with as many friends as possible since you’re participating with strangers. I don’t think it matters but it would enhance your enjoyment, I went with a couple of friends but I think more might have made it more fun.

I don’t want to give away too many spoilers but the early part of the experience is heavily reliant on live actors. I was under the impression that the whole experience was going to be like that but then using screens and speakers the actual Stranger Things cast is helping you on your adventure or rather you’re helping them. Most of the cast is involved so you really feel like it’s an official episode that’s happening around you. I was quite surprised and happy to see them especially since it wasn’t just for a few minutes, they are part of nearly half the whole thing. If you’re fully up to date on the show then you’ll be happy to see some familiar faces. If you’re not caught up then you might be a bit confused.

Overall I was very entertained by the whole experience. I had no idea what to expect as I didn’t want to have it spoiled, I’d recommend going in pretty cold. I was actually thinking this was going to be like a Halloween Horror Nights house but the best way to describe it is it’s part escape room/part amusement park ride minus any actual ride. It was like a very immersive pre-show to a Disneyland attraction but the walk-through itself is the attraction. Once you’re done you exit into Mix-Tape, which is a food court/gift shop themed to Starcourt Mall that extends your time making it a well-rounded afternoon or evening with your friends.

If you’re a Stranger Things fan or looking for something different to do with your friends I’d highly recommend Stranger Things: The Experience. If you’re in the SoCal region you can buy ticketsĀ here!
