The Boondock Saints Are Going To Raise Hell Again In A “Universe Expansion” Movie Sequel

Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are preparing to ship up to Boston yet again, as a new sequel to The Boondock Saints is officially in development. While Boondock Saints creator Troy Duffy won't be directing this latest entry in the series, he will be fleshing out the universe of the Irish vigilantes in a series of new books. A director hasn't been found yet, but this new chapter in the franchise is being developed by Thunder Road, the production studio behind the successful John Wick films, and rights holder Dragonfly Films.

According to Deadline, this new Boondock Saints movie is viewed as a "universe expansion" of the action films. The original 1999 movie featured Reedus and Flanery as the MacManus brothers, siblings who start a killing spree in Boston aimed at the gangsters who infested their city. The film also starred Willem Dafoe as FBI agent Paul Smecker and Billy Connolly as Noah "Il Duce" MacManus, a legendary mob hitman and the father of the siblings he was sent to assassinate.

"When we were given the opportunity to help bring the MacManus brothers back to the screen, we jumped at the chance," said Basil Iwanyk, of Thunder Road Films. "The unique possibility of building on the iconic mythology and characters for all the long-time fans of the series, as well as opening it up to a whole new generation, is one that we couldn't be more excited about."
