The Buzz On: Curtis Fields

Meet our new obsession, Curtis Fields

Don't sleep on R&B singer Curtis Fields, my friends.

We know there's a lot of new music to keep track of around here, but you know what? You're going to want to say that you knew R&B singer Curtis Fields when. We're not joking around -- I mean, wouldn't you want to get the full scoop on a talented 25-year-old Alabama native with a set of pipes like melted butter? Who got his start composing and performing songs using only his iPhone? Of course you would! Also, please note: We didn't say margarine. We said full-fat, melted BUTTAH!

Read more about Curtis Fields after the jump.

The real son of a preacher man (kinda can't get over that), Curtis kicked off his singing career at Fisk University where he joined the Fisk Jubilee Singers. (FYI: That's one of the country's most famous/historic a cappella ensembles.) And, like most singers do, Curtis really wanted to make a full-fledged demo. So he did -- WITH HIS iPHONE! (#KidsTheseDays) Yep, Curtis actually composed and performed songs using only his mobile device. (Er, we know how to text...) Later, Curtis' iPhone creations earned him a spot at hip-hop and R&B conference New Skool Rules, where he got high praise from the competition's judges, including A&R rep Ray Daniels, aka the guy who signed Future. And the rest, as they say, is history a deal with Epic Records!

Though Curtis did technically release a debut EP last year (Cherish The Day), but now, thanks to his Epic deal, Curtis has a brand-new single, "Opposites Attract" -- which he performed at the 2013 BET Awards (!), and is currently in the studio working on a debut LP. But while you're waiting for more Curtis songs to materialize, focus on "Opposites Attract," which features a lush, colorful melody, and totally reminds us of Jason Derulo mixed with a dab of Usher and infused with Curtis' own brand of straight BUTTAH PIPES. Keep an eye on this one, folks. Dude is on the come up, and then some.
