The Simpsons writer signs on for Angry Birds movie

Emmy-winning writer Jon Vitti, who penned "Mr. Plow" episode of The Simpsons, working on 2016 film based on Rovio's game.

 

Emmy-winning The Simpsons and King of the Hill writer and producer Jon Vitti will pen the screenplay for 2016's Angry Birds movie, Rovio Entertainment announced today.

Vitti is a comedy veteran. He won an Emmy Award for his contributions to King of the Hill and has written numerous episodes of The Simpsons, including "Mr. Plow." His credits also include Saturday Night Live, The Office, Da Ali G Show, and The Larry Sanders Show.

He also shared writing credit on full-length films like The Simpsons Movie and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Joining Vitti and previously announced producers David Maisel (Iron Man) and John Cohen (Despicable Me) is Catherine Winder, Rovio also announced today. Winder was formerly VP of production at 20th Century Fox, where she oversaw production on the original Ice Age film.

"I'm very excited that Jon and Catherine have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise," Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed said in a statement. "I'm confident we are building the right team to deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans."

The Angry Birds movie launches July 1, 2016. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. No information regarding a director, voice actors, or the film's plot have been divulged yet.
