Twitch viewing app hits Xbox 360

New app from video site available only in the United States for Xbox Live Gold subscribers; does not allow streaming, only viewing.

Video platform Twitch today announced the arrival of a dedicated app for Xbox 360 that will allow gamers to view content, but not stream it. The Twitch app for Xbox 360 is only available in the United States to those with an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Twitch's worldwide audience now stands at 34 million unique viewers per month, and the arrival of the Xbox 360 app is a measure of reaching gamers wherever they are, CEO Emmet Shear said in a statement.

"Our app for Xbox 360 brings Twitch video to the television and into the living room of millions of Xbox Live members for the first time," Shear said. "Given the huge number Xbox owners and how many of them love gaming spectatorship, it's a natural fit to bring the Twitch experience to the 360."

Twitch launched during the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo and has since partnered with a string of high-profile companies and brands, including Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and Activision.

Using the Twitch app for Xbox 360, players will be able to watch the top 300 live Twitch channels and browse videos either by channel, game, or featured content.
