Uncharted Movie Hits $44M, Has Fourth-Biggest Start For A Video Game Movie In US History

Sony's Uncharted movie opened this weekend, and it did very big business at the box office, becoming the fourth-biggest opening of all time for a video game movie.

Uncharted is projected to make $44 million for the Friday-Sunday period and $51 million for the four-day Presidents Day long weekend. It's the fourth-biggest opening for a movie based on a video game in the US, trailing Tomb Raider ($47 million), Detective Pikachu ($54 million), and Sonic the Hedgehog ($58 million).

The Uncharted movie didn't exactly wow professional critics, but it's performing far better with fans, at least based on scores posted on Rotten Tomatoes. The strong positive reaction from fans suggests that box office numbers might continue to be strong as the film heads into its second and third weekends.
