Video Premiere: Craig Owens, ‘Paradise’

Craig Owens stays balanced in the video for his cover of Coldplay's "Paradise."

You know how we've slowly been taking you through some of our favorite tracks off of Punk Goes Pop 5? Like Forever The Sickest Kids' dead-on take of Rihanna's "We Found Love," and We Came As Romans' version of The Wanted's "Glad You Came." Well we're also in obsesso mode over on-again Chiodos frontman Craig Owens' rendition of Coldplay's epic record, "Paradise." And now there's a video, too, and it's a tearjerker, so get ready to ugly-cry on your yoga mat.

Truthfully, we were a little nervous when we heard that "Paradise" would be included on the Punk Goes Pop Volume 5 compilation (a punked-up Coldplay? We weren't sure...), but Craig did a masterful job of infusing some of his rock sensibilities into Coldplay's sparkling melodic record. Interlaced between shots of a lone but not lonely Craig performing and doing yoga (incidentally, we swoon for a punk yogi), we see shots of Craig in the studio recording his version of Coldplay's smash. While it may seem a little out of the ordinary for Craig to start doing yoga poses mid-video, finding balance is clearly one of the ways Craig finds strength in himself and his sobriety and finds his willingness to inspire others: "Focusing on myself is the best way to be a help to everyone around me. So I stay focused, and thankful for the things that I have -- and roll with the punches life sometimes throws my way," said Craig. Also, did we mention that Craig totally nailed that really high part of THE chorus? You know, that one part where Chris Martin goes "para para paradise!" #OnPoint.
