It's no surprise that a rapper like Joey Bada$$ has found a comfortable home in underground, throwback-inspired hip-hop. The young Brooklyn MC (and MTV "Artist to Watch" in 2013) wraps his rapid-fire rhymes in gully, marauding '90s hip-hop beats and had the privilege of rapping on a song like "Unorthodox" (created by seminal hip-hop producer DJ Premier), which is just MORE evidence to the kind of revivalist sound Joe gravitates to. Now, Joey's teaming up with fellow NY rapper Smoke DZA and Southern rhymer Big K.R.I.T. (aka The Smokers Club) on "Underground Airplay," set to appear on Ecko Unlimited's (yep, the clothing line) Underground Airplay mixtape.

In the black-and-white clip, Joey Bada$$ and company go underground, quite literally. While cohabiting in what looks like an abandoned subway station (though we do see a train roll by near the vid's conclusion, so apparently it's active), Joey, DZA, and K.R.I.T. all take turns spitting on the track, sometimes rolling in NYC's grimiest alleys and sometimes classing things up in a recording booth. Perhaps it's a hint that even though young Joey's rapidly rising in the hip-hop ranks (admit it: the '90s ARE pretty trendy), he'll always keep things underground... literally and figuratively.
