Barbie Might Double Up Oppenheimer At The Box Office, According To Early Tracking

It looks like it will be a Barbie world when the film premieres July 21. New early tracking numbers suggest the movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling could make as much as $80 million domestically opening weekend, doubling what's predicted for Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barbie is estimated to haul in $70-$80 million, though Warner Bros. apparently thinks $60 million is more in the ballpark for the film. Either way, that would easily top early tracking for Oppenheimer, predicted to earn $40 million.

It will be bomb versus bombshell next month, even though rumors swirled at one point that Nolan's film was getting delayed. Barbie and Oppenheimer both premiere July 21, with the latter tracking to be one of Nolan's lowest openings since The Prestige brought in $14.8 million in 2006. His film is about the creation of the first atomic bomb and stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh.
