Watch Friends’ ‘I’m His Girl’ ‘PUSH Live’ Performance

Friends don't let friends get stuck in bad relationships. Friends also tell their friends about Friends -- a female-fronted Brooklyn quintet that makes, in their own words, "weird pop" (think: Donora) -- to which we'd add "wonderful" -- and offer up romantic advice and punchy bass lines to spare. For their "PUSH Live" performance, the band leans back into "I'm His Girl," a bratty groover powered by tasteful triangle taps, multiple drummers and the bouncy fretwork of bassist Lesley Hann. It sounds a bit like "Walk On The Wild Side" by way of Twin Sister and third-wave feminism.

Singer Samantha Urbani tells Noisey the song's about open relationships, but her sage wisdom's applicable to everybody: "If you love someone, it should feel good to let them breathe," she sings. We'll drink to not being clingy! And when she's not dispensing Rookie-worthy tips, Urbani channels everything good about the '80s that's still good in 2012: a midriff-baring top, hater-blockers and a dangerously high ponytail. Maybe someday we'll get off our asses and move to Bushwick and go thrifting with her and Grimes and/or learn to play bass. We probably have to buy a bass first. Going to work on that, right after obsessing over this video for the rest of the day.

Friends' Manifest! album is out now, and they're basically touring the world this summer, so tell all of your friends before their triumphant return to America.
